Why did you decide to have vision correction, PRK?
Kick Boxing is involved with punches and kicks and as a boxer, most important things are vision to follow moving body, ability to react quickly, and focuses. My vision before the refractive correction was 0.04 and I had a hard time gauging the distance of my partner. It is too late to react once you see your opponent‘s boxing gloves. I had many experiences where I lost my concentration and confidence because of my inability to see my match on the ring. My coach tells me that vision is the most important thing in boxing, but I was not able to wear contact lenses or glasses to the matches. Then, a friend of mine told me about vision correction methods such as “LASIK” and ”PRK”.
If my vision will be recovered enough to be a confident boxer, I wanted to give it a try. There are two types of refractive eye surgeries; “LASIK” which create flap and “PRK” without flap. For someone like me who plays hardcore sports such as boxing, martial arts, etc. is recommended to have "PRK" done in order to avoid displacement of flap.
※flap is created by arbitration of your cornea and works as a cap

Why I chose Kobe Clnic
To me selecting the right clinic where I could trust was my priority to have my "PRK" done. I heard about the Kobe Clinic from my acquaintance and I started my own research. It turned out that Kobe Clinic offers “Life Time Guarantee” and is affiliated with Dr. Alan Berg in Los Angeles, California, where many of Kobe Clinic’s physicians are trained at, it made me to believe that this is the clinic that I can truly trust to have my surgery done at.

The day of the surgery
Although I educated myself well enough about the "PRK" from the staff at Kobe Clinic, to tell you the truth, I was not fearless as my surgery date came closer. But on the day of the surgery, staff at the clinic welcomed me with smiles and my anxiety prior to the surgery was gone. During the surgery, I heard friendly voice from clinical staff reminding me that everything was going well. After I was told to focus on the red light, then the light turned into blue. Soon after that, I was told that my surgery was over. I was astonished how quickly the surgery was completed.

"PRK" changed my life!
 (At the match)
Currently I have well above 20/20 vision for both eyes. Right after the treatment, my sights were little blurry but now with my clear sights, I could focus on my match lot better than I used to be. I have a better sense of depth and developed punching skills, which give me tremendous confidence on the ring. As for my personal life, I no longer have to deal with glassed and contact lenses; PRK really changed my life and it was one of the best decisions I made.

Won the first match after PRK!
On June 12, Mike Yamamori had his first match after his PRK and won the match! He said that thanks to PRK, he was able to focus much better and gave himself a 100%.

Dr. Yoshida from the Kobe Clinic congratulated Mike Yamamori after the match.
